Mission Support

JPL's Electrochemical Research, Technology, & Engineering Group members support past, present, and future NASA missions by serving as:

  • Cognizant engineers
  • Technical contract monitors
  • Technical consultants
  • Mission operation specialists

Group members have led the design, build, testing, flight qualification, and delivery of spacecraft hardware as well supported mission operations on dozens of NASA missions such as Mars Science Laboratory, Electronic Nose on the International Space Station, Mars Exploration Rovers, Mars Pathfinder mission, Soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP) and many others.

Li-ion Battery (Yardney Technical Products) delivered to the Mars Science Laboratory mission
CubeSat One Batteries
Custom battery pack used for the Mars CubeSat One (MarCO) Cubesat, featuring commercially available 18650 Li-ion cells. The pack was designed and built by the JPL Mechanical Systems Divisions, with cell selection and acceptance testing performed by the JPL Electrochemical Research, Technology, & Engineering Group Group.
